Error: Platform configuration has been modified outside this program.

Under linux Eclipse once gave me the following error message:

  1. Requested operation cannot be performed because it would invalidate the current configuration. See details for more information.
  2. Platform configuration has been modified outside this program. A restart is recommended.

The reason were wrong write permissions of ~/.eclipse. Check that this directory actually belongs to you are is at least writable to you.
